Nancy Chaanine is a native of Beirut Lebanon, but arrived in Carteret County at age 12 and has made the area her home ever since. She is a graduate of East Carolina University, and is employed with News Channel 12 and Fox Eastern Carolina news as an account executive, where she enjoys helping local businesses grow using television and digital campaigns. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for almost 12 years. They are the proud parents of 1 1/2 year-old, Lincoln and a 4 1/2 lb. Chihuahua named Zoe.
Nancy enjoys singing, traveling, movies, boating, sunbathing and spending time with family and friends.....especially her husband and son. She is a foodie, and loves cooking, and trying new dining experiences.
Nancy has always wanted to be a professional singer and even auditioned for American Idol three times. She has recorded a Christmas Album (Finally Christmas) that you can find on iTunes and Amazon. She speaks Lebanese, but can't read or write Arabic. Nancy has no formal dance experience, but loves to dance......belly dance, in fact. She says, " I am Lebanese after all!!"
Matt Lara is a three-time participant in our dance event. He is originally from Laguna Beach, California, and came to Carteret County while stationed at M.C.A.S. Cherry Point. He loves surfing, fishing, volleyball, and motorcycle riding.
Matt has surfed in Hawaii, and climbed Mount Fuji. But his real claim to fame is that his grandfather, Haddon Sundblom, not only painted but posed for the Coco Cola Santa Claus ads from 1931 - 1964.
